What is Insulated Plasterboard?

Insulated plasterboard is a single board solution that combines regular plasterboard with a layer of insulation, typically made from materials like polystyrene or PIR. This offers a smooth finish and excellent thermal insulation properties.

How is Insulated Plasterboard Fixed to a Wall?

Insulated plasterboard is secured to the wall using drywall screws or nails at specific intervals, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Insulated Plasterboard or Separate Insulation and Plasterboard?

Insulated plasterboard offers a convenient one-step solution, saving on installation time and potentially labour costs. However, for thicker insulation requirements, separate insulation and plasterboard might be needed.

What is the Thickness of Insulated Plasterboard?

The overall thickness of insulated plasterboard depends on the thickness of the plasterboard itself (usually 9.5mm or 12.5mm)  combined with the thickness of the insulation layer, which can vary.

How Does Insulated Plasterboard Help Achieve Part L of the Building Regulations?

Part L of the Building Regulations focuses on improving the energy efficiency of buildings.  Insulated plasterboard helps by providing thermal insulation, which reduces heat loss from a building. This translates to lower energy consumption for heating,  contributing to compliance with Part L requirements.

Are there any environmental benefits to Standard Plasterboard?

Many plasterboards are made from recycled materials and can be recycled at the end of their lifespan. Check with your local depot for specific details.

Can Insulated Plasterboard Be Dot and Dabbed?

Dot and dab does not form a robust and reliable air barrier and as such is not a recommended method for insulated plasterboard. It is typically fixed mechanically using screws or nails.
