Frequently asked questions

Does loft insulation help a building to comply with government building regulations?

Yes, adequate loft insulation is essential to meet England and Wales Building Regulation Part L and Section 6 in Scotland, which aim to conserve fuel and power by improving energy efficiency in homes and buildings.a

What is the difference between glass wool, rock wool, and PIR insulation?

Glass wool, rock wool, and PIR are different types of insulation with varying properties. Glass wool and rock wool are mineral wools offering good thermal and acoustic performance.

PIR is a rigid foam with superior thermal insulation but typically less soundproofing. The best choice depends on specific project needs.  Contact us for technical support.

What is the difference between a warm roof and a cold roof?

A warm roof incorporates insulation within the roof structure (usually the rafters), creating a warmer living space. A cold roof has insulation in the loft space above the ceiling (the joists), with the roof structure exposed to external temperatures.

Is insulation a sustainable product?

Yes, insulation is a sustainable product. Many insulation materials are made from recycled materials, and insulation helps to reduce energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions.

Does loft and roof insulation help to boost the building EPC?

Yes, improving loft and roof insulation can significantly increase a building's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating, helping to optimise the saleability of a building.
