Frequently asked questions

What is Moisture Resistant Plasterboard?

Moisture resistant plasterboard is standard plasterboard with a water-repellent core and specially treated paper faces. This combination helps resist moisture absorption and warping, ensuring a long-lasting finish in humid environments.

Is Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Completely Waterproof?

No. While highly resistant to moisture, it's not entirely waterproof.  For direct water exposure, additional waterproofing solutions like tanking systems might be required.

Can I Tile Directly on Moisture Resistant Plasterboard?

Yes!  Moisture resistant plasterboard offers a suitable base for tiling in most applications.  Follow the tile adhesive manufacturer's recommendations and consider a tanking system for extra protection in wet areas.

Does Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Need Different Installation Methods?

The installation process for moisture resistant plasterboard is very similar to standard plasterboard.  However, using appropriate jointing compounds designed for moisture resistance is recommended.

Is Moisture Resistant Plasterboard More Expensive?

Moisture resistant plasterboard typically has a slightly higher cost compared to standard options due to its enhanced properties. However, the added protection and durability often outweigh the initial cost increase.

Where Can I Use Moisture Resistant Plasterboard?

Moisture resistant plasterboard shines in moisture-prone areas like bathrooms (withstands splashes and steam behind tiles and fixtures), kitchens (resists moisture from cooking and spills), and laundry rooms (provides protection against washing machines and dryers).
